    The Recreation Center, a 69,000 sq. ft. facility was opened in 2003. The facility offers the community a 5,200 sq. ft. full service Fitness Center and three group exercise studios. A 19,800 sq. ft. gymnasium can be converted into three full-size basketball courts, six full-size volleyball courts or 16 badminton courts. A three-lane indoor track overlooks the gym. Childcare is available through Kidzone for recreation center users. A multipurpose room can be divided into two separate 1,035 sq. ft. rooms and feature access to an outdoor terrace and amphitheater seating area. The building is also home to the South East Association of Special Parks and Recreation (SEASPAR), which provides recreation opportunities to individuals with special needs who live in ten Park Districts, including Downers Grove.

    New improvements are coming to 4500 Fitness at the Recreation Center!

    Starting Monday, August 6, the Fitness Center Locker Rooms at the Recreation Center will be closed for renovation

    • The renovation will take approximately 6 weeks to complete.
    • Lower level locker rooms will be available during this time.
    • A limited number of locks are available; we encourage visitors to bring their own.
    • We apologize for this inconvenience as it is necessary to close these facilities to assure your safety.
    • We look forward to providing these exciting improvements.

    Kids can now exercise while you do! Children ages 5 to 12 will enjoy a variety of open gym activities including sports and games. An inflatable bouncy house is available on Mondays and Fridays.

    The SEASPAR office is part of the Downers Grove Recreation Center located on Belmont Road just south of Ogden Avenue.

    What is SEASPAR?

    SEASPAR is recognized as a special recreation association by the Illinois Association of Park Districts and is an extension of the services of its member entities. It is governed by a Board of Directors which represents each of these eleven member entities. SEASPAR's goal is to provide a wide variety of programs and services for individuals with all types of disabilities and of all ages.

    Weekly Programs

    SEASPAR offers a variety of year-round weekly recreation programs for all age ranges. Programs are offered to provide opportunities for socialization, to learn or improve a leisure skill, and to integrate into the community. Programs are offered at local community centers, bowling alleys, private businesses, the SEASPAR office, and a variety of other locations in the community.

    Special Events

    SEASPAR provides many special events throughout the year. The events include seasonal dances, sporting events, plays, and unique outings, just to name a few. SEASPAR is proud to offer annual special events such as the Summer Kick-Off Party, SEASPAR/Kiwanis Team Bowling Tournament, and the Holiday Spectacular.

  • Indoor Track

    The suspended indoor track allows you to walk or run regardless of the weather. The three-lane track (9 laps = mile) overlooks the main gymnasium and offers views of the Downers Grove Golf Club.

    The indoor track at 4500 Fitness is FREE to all visitors!

    Track Reminders:

    • Track users must check-in at the registration desk.
    • Children under the age of seven are not allowed on the track.
    • Ages 7 - 12 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
    • Children 13 and older can participate without a parent/guardian.
    • Cleats, spikes, strollers, rollerblades and skateboards are prohibited.
    • Walkers and wheelchairs are allowed.
    • Outside lane is used for passing; please do not block this lane.

    Whether you're looking for space to play or room to gather, the Recreation and Fitness Center is the place to be. A 19,800 square-foot gymnasium can be converted into three full-size basketball courts, six full-size volleyball courts or 16 badminton courts. The 2,070 square-foot multipurpose room can be divided into two separate, 1,035 square-foot rooms. The multipurpose room also features access to an outdoor terrace and amphitheater seating area.
