IMAGINE DANCE TEAM AUDITIONS

Imagine how far you can go with the Imagine Dance Team! Develop your individual talents and grow as a dancer with our team rehearsals that work on technique and choreography. Performances and competitions will provide opportunities to showcase your new skills!

When:

  • Saturday, Aug. 25 at 2:00 pm at Lincoln Center

Auditions:

  • Highly motivated dancers 7-16 years old
  • Max of 10 additional team members
  • Learn a short dance routine during the audition
  • Demonstrate the following:
  1. Turns in second position
  2. Leaps including but not limited to calypso and switch leaps
  3. Double and triple pirouettes
  4. Level of flexibility including but not limited to splits in left, right, and center
  5. Ability to improvise dance
  6. Ability to dance in a group

Team Rehearsals:

  • Fridays 4-6:15 pm
  • Emphasis in ballet, jazz, modern and lyrical
  • Additional dance class and 30 minute specialty class required

Performances:

  • 7 times per year
  • Includes 3 competitions plus Spring and Winter Recitals


Team Requirements

When placing new members or adjusting the placement of current members of Imagine Dance Team, these are the things we look for when making a determination on where the dancers should go:

  • Imagine Dance Team: Garnet
    • Technique requirements:
      • Right or left and center splits
      • Double pirouette
      • Leaps:
        • Right or left grand jete
      • Pas de bourree
      • Leg grab hold
    • Intangible requirements:
      • Highly motivated
      • Passionate and driven
      • Stage presence including facial expressions and energy
    • Also, Garnet team members will be cast in no less than 1 large group piece.

  • Imagine Dance Team: Topaz
    • Technique requirements:
      • Right, left, center splits
      • Leaps and Jumps:
        • Calypso leap
        • Switch leap
        • Reverse leap
        • Right and left grand jete
        • Tilt Jump
      • Triple pirouette
      • Turns in second
      • Leg grab turn
      • Extension
      • Illusion
    • Intangible requirements:
      • Highly motivated
      • Passionate and driven
      • Stage presence including but not limited to use of the stage, facial expressions, energy, ability to tell a story through movement/emotional expression
    • Also, Topaz team members will be cast in no less than 3 pieces.

Show synopsis:

In a December like no other, the North Pole has never been busier. As the holiday season is officially declared, the Shelf Elves are busy reporting back to Santa and the work at the Toyshop is in full swing. Evie, a young girl from Downers Grove, learns a shocking truth about Amelia, her younger sister. Amelia is certain her name has been put on Santa's Naughty List and with good reason! When Evie sends a thought provoking letter to Santa, telling him she can't believe in him anymore, Santa loses his Christmas Spirit. He struggles to resist a change he knows, in his heart, has to be made in order for the meaning of Christmas to ring true.

Auditions:

  • Seeking kids and their parents--audition together and get cast together!
  • Kids ages 5-8 required to audition with a parent
  • Anyone ages 9+ can audition by themselves if desired
  • Arrive at the start of auditions
  • Be prepared with a monologue (30 seconds-2 minutes) and a song without accompaniment
  • May consist of cold reads and improv games

Rehearsals and Registration:

  • Main Character: $80
  • Supporting Role: $60
  • Rehearsals: Mondays at 6 pm and Saturdays at 3 pm October 8-December 3

Performances:

  • December 8 at 7:00 pm and December 9 at 2:00 pm at Lincoln Center

Show Synopsis:

Through a series of scenes and monologues -- everything from an accidental first date to a most unusual art exhibit to creating that last, best selfie -- we meet a group of teens who are struggling to find the balance between documenting their lives and living them. Award-winning playwright Jonathan Dorf uses this thought-provoking, one act "dramedy" to explore the world of social media that we live in. We seem to be recording our every experience, but are we making memories or missing out on them?

Auditions:

  • Seeking kids 12-18 years old
  • Arrive at the start of auditions
  • Be prepared with a monologue (30 seconds-2 minutes)
  • Auditions will also consist of cold reads and improv games

Rehearsals and Registration:

  • Main Character: $100
  • Supporting Role: $75
  • Rehearsals Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays starting December 1st
